These patterns are basically nothing more than "Hand Jive" which you probably see children doing on the playground as they are relaxed and generally having a good time with a song or chant. They are connected to various meter signs such as 4/4, 3/4, 6/8, 12/8, etc.What part of the body is to be struck at what particular beat in the music.
There is nothing sacred about these patterns but they can give you a place to start. Enjoy!
