Description
In this lab, students will submerge mason jars, each filled with a different insulator into ice water for 5 minutes. Students will measure and record the temperature of the insulator inside the mason jar every 30 seconds for five minutes and then create a line graph , hand drawn on graph paper or completed in Microsoft Excel, to show how the temperature in each jar changed over time.
The teacher can drill a hole through the aluminum top of each mason jar in order to fit a long glass thermometer and taping the thermometer to the lid of the mason jar to ensure the thermometer does not touch the bottom of the mason jar, but rather keeping the bottom of the thermometer in the middle of the jar so it is only touching the insulator placed in each jar.
