Dr. Sigma's Life Lessons are short math warmups that involve everyday tasks that students will need to understand as they grow up and become responsible citizens. Life Lessons - College Expenses contains 16 warmup sheets for students that involve retail receipts. The warmups increase in difficulty. There are four warmups for each of the following levels of difficulty which build upon the difficulty of the previous levels:

- Level 1, Addition of total college expenses for a year
- Level 2, Calculation of total college expenses for a year minus scholarships applied
- Level 3, Calculation of total college expenses for multiple semesters
- Level 4, Calculation of total college expenses for multiple semesters, grant amounts and amounts to finance

These warmups can be used for students in late elementary, middle school, high school and adult learning programs. They can be used individually as warm-ups throughout the year or as part of a personal finance unit. Lessons can be differentiated by student skill level and taught in a single lesson if desired.
