Color By Numbers Change Standard Form Linear Equations into Slope Intercept Form
Share

Description

Make practice fun for artistic students my using a color by numbers format. Students solve for y to change standard form linear equations into slope intercept form and then color the picture according to the answer key. I use this in class just to break up the type of practice and assessment. You can score these quickly at a glance to assess your students' knowledge of solving literal equations. Also works well on a day you have a substitute and need practice that can also serve as a formative assessment.

My students enjoyed the answer by color activities. I love it because it's little prep but helps prepare them through the lesson.

Rearrange formulas to highlight a quantity of interest, using the same reasoning as in solving equations. For example, rearrange Ohmโ€™s law ๐˜ = ๐˜ญ๐˜™ to highlight resistance ๐˜™.
Prove that, given a system of two equations in two variables, replacing one equation by the sum of that equation and a multiple of the other produces a system with the same solutions.
Solve systems of linear equations exactly and approximately (e.g., with graphs), focusing on pairs of linear equations in two variables.
