If you’re looking to implement the science of reading best practices into your literacy intervention lessons or Orton-Gillingham lesson plans, these no prep decodable reading comprehension passages are a great resource!

Students will practice their decoding and fluency skills with these fully decodable passages that target specific phonics skills using a systematic progression. 20 passages are included.

As you use a systematic and explicit phonics approach, these are the perfect tool, especially for your reading intervention students who truly benefit from more exposures and practice.

Using a color code, students will read and answer the comprehension checks at the end of each passage. They may use a red, blue or yellow crayon or highlighter to find their answers and then write them in the spaces provided. 

Your students will love being reading detectives while finding the color clues that answer the questions!

  • Digraphs
  • Initial Blends
  • Final Blends
  • VCe
  • R-Controlled Vowels

It is a truth universally acknowledged that kids who normally start to squirm when you pull out the a decodable passage are instantly hooked when you let them use not one, not two, but THREE different colors of highlighter to mark words. My students beg to use these passages. I really like that they are not only searching for phonics skill words, but also for text evidence.
