Description

Build number sense with ease using the Color-Coded Number Grid to 120 - a visually engaging, teacher-approved math tool that makes counting, skip-counting, place value, and number patterns accessible for elementary learners. This vibrant number chart is perfect for classrooms (Grades 1–2), math centers, intervention groups, and interactive notebooks. Whether you’re introducing numbers to 120 for the first time or reinforcing fluency, this resource supports students with clear visuals and multisensory support.

What’s Included:

  • A large, color-coded 0–120 number grid formatted for easy viewing and reference
  • Print-ready color and black-and-white options

Why Teachers Love It:

  • Visual support for counting & patterns: Color coding helps students recognize grouping by tens, understand place value, and see skip-counting patterns at a glance.
  • Standards-aligned practice: Supports counting and cardinality standards like CCSS 1.NBT.A.1–1.NBT.A.2 by reinforcing number relationships up to 120.
  • Perfect for math centers or anchor charts: Use as a reference tool for guided math groups or independent practice.
  • Differentiated support: Works for struggling learners who benefit from visual cues and for advanced learners exploring patterns and operations.
  • Low prep, high impact: Just print - no laminating or cutting required unless you want reusable charts.

Skills & Concepts Targeted:

✔ Counting forward and backward to 120
✔ Identifying patterns in numbers (even, odd, +10 patterns)
✔ Skip-counting practice (2s, 5s, 10s)
✔ Place value understanding
✔ Number recognition & fluency
✔ Quick visual reference for addition & subtraction strategies

Classroom Implementation Ideas:

  • Math Warm-Ups: Display the grid each morning as part of your calendar cabinet routine.
  • Interactive Notebook Support: Students glue mini-grids into journals and highlight patterns.
  • Number Talks: Use color groups to prompt discussions about grouping and place value (e.g., “What pattern do you notice in the green column?”).
  • Centers & Rotations: Add task cards that require students to find, highlight, or extend number sequences on the grid.
  • Progress Monitoring: Use grid excerpts to assess students’ understanding of number patterns or counting strategies.

The Color-Coded Number Grid to 120 is a versatile, classroom-ready visual that supports fundamental math fluency and deepens understanding of number relationships.

I use this chart in small groups and it is available to students when doing independent work as well. This year I think I'm going to make it into a poster and put it up in my classroom so that it can be an interactive chart for my self-contained students.
