This engaging hands-on activity helps students practice color recognition and sorting skills. Students cut out the picture cards and match them to the correct color crayon column. Perfect for small groups, literacy centers, or early finishers!

Preparation Options:

  • Print & Go: Print the sorting mats and picture cards on regular paper. Students can cut and glue the pictures onto the mats.
  • Reusable Center: Print the mats and picture cards on cardstock. Laminate both pages for durability. Cut apart the picture cards and add Velcro dots or magnets so students can match pictures multiple times.
  • File Folder Game: Glue each sorting mat inside a file folder. Laminate the folder and picture cards. Store the cards in a labeled envelope or zip-top bag attached to the folder for easy organization.
  • Small Group or Whole Class: Use the mats as large anchor charts. Students can take turns placing picture cards in the correct column.
