Description

In this self-checking activity, students will work to simplify a variety of expressions by combing like terms. As questions are answered correctly, pieces of the mystery puzzle will begin to appear, just like a pixel art activity! This resource also includes a printable worksheet with the same 16 questions.

If students incorrectly answer a question, the self checking feature will turn the cell red to warn students of their error, or green if answers are correct. Additionally, puzzle pieces will only appear if correct answers are typed into the cells.

There are two student versions included in this resource. Both versions are self-checking with answer cells turning green and red if they are correct or incorrect. One version also includes a score (automatic grade calculation) and progress monitoring bar that increases as the score increases.

Included:

  • 16 algebraic expressions requiring simplification
    • ex: "3x + 4 + 5x - 1" would simplify to "8x+3"
  • two student version -- one that in self checking green & red, another that is self checking & auto grading
  • Answer Key

NOTE: This activity does not require students to use the distributive property in any examples to simplify the algebraic expression. Students are required to write answers in standard form (variable, then constant).

This activity is ready to go upon purchase! Each file component of this resource (student version and answer key) are their own separate files -- once you have added the resource to your google drive you can assign to your students.
