Description

Comprehensive, well-organized, and engaging lesson package with scaffolded notes, group task cards, a differentiated worksheet assignment, and checkpoint.

Students learn:

  • Solve multi-step percent problems involving percent increases and percent decreases. Includes applications in financial literacy. Examples: simple interest, tax, markups and markdowns, gratuities and commissions, fees, population growth, etc.
  • Focus is on understanding how percent changes combine. For example: Discounting an item by 25% and then further by another 25% is not the same as reducing the item by 50%

Includes:

  • Detailed lesson plan with warm-up/hook
  • Comprehensive and visual scaffolded notes (with lesson video).
  • Set of task cards for collaborative group work.
  • Individual worksheet assignment (differentiated into 3-levels)
  • Checkpoint with student self-assessment (can be used for review)
  • .docx and .pdf files included
  • All resources are editable and come with a step-by-step key

This was originally created for the BC Math 8 redesigned curriculum in British Columbia Canada. However, all files are editable and it can be adapted to meet your students' needs.

There are lots of optional extensions included. These activities can take your class anywhere from 2 - 5 hours.
