Description

This problem solving worksheet provides 15 questions about factors and multiples of numbers. Students will have to read different short scenarios and answer using evidence and details. Kids will have to know about the divisibility rules for 2,3,5 and 10. They will also have to differentiate between prime and composite numbers as well as the difference between factors and multiples. Multi-step problems are also included and kids will have to give examples to support their answers.
I have added in some of the Depth and Complexity icons for GATE students (or any students for that matter), but students don't need to know the icons to solve the problems. Addition and subtraction are also involved in some of the problems. Additionally, students will have lots of practice using writing in math as well as math vocabulary since they will need to justify their answers using specific academic language.

This worksheet can be used in many ways. For example, teachers can use the problems to show students how to tackle word problems especially when they have more than one step. On the other hand, you could use these problems as partner practice, independent practice, or even as an assessment.

I like to have my students work purely in teams, and I walk around to monitor and give advice when needed. I also award table points for the teams who work best together. Students will quickly find out they need to work together, not leave anyone behind, cooperate, and listen to each other.

I formatted the questions two different ways. Because I know many people would prefer to have less pages to copy, I decreased the font and fit all 15 questions on two pages. However, if you prefer larger font and more space, I also included a three page format.

An answer sheet is provided on the second to last page. Enjoy!
