Description
The Common Core aligns language arts with many other subjects making the model transdisciplinary. Students in elementary school are required to perform tasks and complete research based projects.
This is one task based on the research of an animal the students select to conduct their research on.
The interactive worksheets are created on Microsoft Word and allow students to click in the boxes and add information they found during their research by using the NetTrekker Program. If students do not have school access to this program, they can then access the National Geographic website for kids. This website also contains TONS of information for the students to read independently and pick and choose what they would like to include in their projects.
Students are also required to use clipart or approved internet photographs of their animal by writing captions to go along with each photograph.
This is a great way to integrate using text features (after learning about them) and how to summarize important information from a nonfiction text. In addition, students will have to create a well written mini-book or PowerPoint presentation about this animal after conducting all of their research!
What a great way to get the kids involved in their own learning!
