Your students will thoroughly understand multiplication after being introduced to this comprehensive resource. Understanding Multiplication includes several pages to help you teach the 3rd grade standard 3.OA.A.1 and 3.OA.D.8. These pages will help your students understand multiplication and when to use this operation.

This resource guide includes:

Page 3: A tree map to show all of the different ways to think of multiplication

Page 4: A story problem that involves multiplication and subtraction

Page 5: This is the same story problem as on page 4, but is missing some information. By having students ask the questions, they become better equipped to recognize the information that is needed in order to solve problems. Ask students what information they would need to solve this problem.

Page 6: Students write their own story problem and have a friend solve it.

Page 7: A guided note taker for multiplication

Page 8: A vocabulary page

Page 9: Teacher’s copy for page 3

Page 10: Teacher’s copy for pages 4 and 5

Page 11: Teacher’s copy for page 7
