Description
You can never have too many word problems, can you? This product contains 20 multi-step word problems. I have included 2 different formats. One is a printable page format with 2 problems per page. I have also included all 20 problems in a math journal format if you prefer to use them this way.
The steps in these math story problems were created for the purpose of making sense of a problem, instead of using tricks and key words to solve a problem. Students must understand what the problem is asking them to do before solving it. This product is mainly composed of single-digit addends since the standard focus for 2.OA.1 is on the problem-type.

You can use this for differentiation in your classroom or even tutoring.
As a teacher new to 2nd grade, I found this resource extremely helpful to help my students who struggled with two step word problems. I liked the layout and structure that walked them through the process. They were able to move to doing the problems independently with and without the structured sheet.
I love the set up with step 1 and 2. This product is great for differentiated instruction.

Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
CCSS1.OA.A.2
Solve word problems that call for addition of three whole numbers whose sum is less than or equal to 20, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
CCSS1.OA.B.3
Apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract. If 8 + 3 = 11 is known, then 3 + 8 = 11 is also known. (Commutative property of addition.) To add 2 + 6 + 4, the second two numbers can be added to make a ten, so 2 + 6 + 4 = 2 + 10 = 12. (Associative property of addition.)
