Description
Welcome to “Writing Practice to Mastery!” Since you can use this packet over and over again for different narrative writing pieces, it is truly “A Year’s Worth of Narrative Writing Practice!”
I can write a narrative in which I:
--recount an elaborated event or a short sequence of events including details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings,
--use temporal words to signal event order,
--and provide a sense of closure.
No extra resources needed! Everything you need is included in this unit!
“Writing Practice to Mastery!” can be used with individual
students or with a small group of students who have a shared experience to produce an narrative paper that meets all of the requirements of Common Core 2.W.3. It also allows for research to enhance the narrative and includes a Narrative Writing Scoring Guide that includes student self-scoring, peer scoring and teacher scoring. Students reflect on their scores and then make a plan for improvement on the next Narrative Writing assignment. All of these features, used with the following plan, allow you to cover 2.W.3, 2.W.5, 2.W.6, 2.W.7 and 2.W.8!
Step 1: Experience Brainstorming
Step 2: Researching Background Info
Step 3: Writing the Attention Grabber
Step 4: Sequencing Significant Stuff with Temporal Tip-Offs
Step 5: Describing Your Actions, Thoughts & Feelings
Step 6: Ahhh, What an Experience! (Creating Closure)
Share Your Story With the World!
(Template for putting it all together.) Revision and editing happen from this copy. Digital publishing (or using the template again to publish in the students’ best handwriting) is the final step.
