When it comes to explaining to students why we need to have common denominators in order to add or subtract fractions, it has not come easily for me.
An explanation that would make sense to me may not make sense to my students.
This product is a hands-on (manipulative) way to show the students why we need common denominators in order to add or subtract fractions.
The product consists of templates of rectangles that are divided into fractional parts. The students work with the rectangle and its part as the teacher guides them through the steps. Teacher instructions are provided with the product.
