Description

The start to your school day with upper elementary students should be about community and building the skills necessary for success. These two activities: Soft Start and Community Circle are two perfect ways to start your class's school day off right.

During Soft Start students work on their core competencies and 21st century skills while they play cooperatively. Students learn to imagine, create, build and problem solve together for the first 15 minutes of their school day.

Afterwards, the class comes together for Community Circle. Students practice their communication by listening to each other attentively, sharing their thoughts and ideas. Your classroom community will grow immensely. This time is also a perfect avenue for scaffolding problem solving skills.

Included in this bundle:

Soft Start:

  • rationale behind play in the upper elementary classroom
  • activities that kids enjoy participating in
  • activities to teach the relationship between core competencies to play
  • self reflections and goal setting for personal growth

Community Circle:

  • how to set this up in your classroom
  • tips and tricks
  • self evaluation
  • problem tracking sheets

Bonus product is a sample of how these two resources would combine to make your daily morning routine.

Both resources are great and have helped develop a calm morning routine in my room this year! I especially like the Soft Start Journal, I think it is great to have students understand that they are building important skills through play.

This was a great resource outlining how to implement an effective morning routine with a soft start. This resource is good because the authour has experience with soft starts and community circles.
