Description

The Community Committees packet includes five activities and one assessment to teach community concepts in your classroom. When I taught this, my class and I created our own imaginary community and created laws for us, the citizens, to abide by. We then discussed the traits of a good citizen. I then explained what a committee is and that serving on one to help their community is their duty as citizens. The committees in this packet includes: Safety Committee, Education Committee, Welcoming Committee, Culture Committee, and the Community Panning Committee. Also included is the checklist that I used as a performance-based assessment. The students really comprehended and applied the concepts of community through these committees. Let them share their committee work with fellow citizens!
