Community Helper or Occupation Picture Sort includes community helpers, such as: doctor; police officer; firefighter; teacher; postal worker; painter; janitor; librarian; farmer; chef; astronaut; gardener; and veterinarian.
o Create labels for sorting pictures into categories o Someone you know/someone you do not know o Work outdoors/work indoors o Variations: o Students can play memory with community helpers they know and don’t know. o Students can write the sounds that they hear in the words. o “I Spy” I’m thinking of someone who… (i.e. comes to deliver mail to your house). Students can use pointers to identify community helper you are thinking of in the scenario.
