Students will practice comparing and contrasting stories (RL.3.9) and informational texts (RI.3.9). This ELA reading comprehension bundle combines 2 mini-packs and consists of 8 skills-focused worksheets with 40 questions, split between fiction and nonfiction.
This Bundle Includes:
- 8 compare & contrast worksheets, with 16 fictional or informational passages from existing reading drills (the questions are different)
- 40 questions, with simulated standardized test questions for 3rd grade
- Mix of multiple choice and short/open response activities
- Unassisted version without tips for students
- Digitally enabled (Easel Activities) versions to assign online via Google Classroom or any LMS
Students Will:
Compare and contrast the themes, settings and plots of stories written by the same author about similar or the same characters. This includes comparing and contrasting:
- the main message (lesson) of stories
- the words and actions of main characters
- story elements such as problem and solution
Compare and contrast the most important points and key details presented in two informational texts on a similar topic. This includes:
- identifying and describing how the ideas and details between passages are alike and/or different
- finding similar points and details in a second text, based on a point or detail given from a first text
- determining which passages (or both) specific details are found in

This resource was easy to use and print. the guided/ assisted lessons were used in whole group and partner settings. the unassisted worksheets were used as assessments. The stories were fun and short but gave clear lessons and characters for my students to identify. I'm happy with this resource and plan to use it again next year!
