Description

This comparing fractions craft is sure to be a hit with your students!
I like to use this in small groups, independent work station, early finisher activity, or as a intro to comparing fractions.

The first two cupcake pages have the same denominators ( except for a 1/2 fraction). The third page has different denominators. I like to give this page to challenge some of my students who have mastered drawing out fractions. This is an easy way to differentiate, without your students knowing who got what- since both pages look identical.

I hope your students enjoy this activity as much as mine did!

I used this resource when my students finally got to come back to the classroom after being virtual for the first half of the school year. It was so nice to be able to let them do a craftivity with scissors, glue, and crayons after so many computer activities! They loved being able to be creative as well as show me how they figured out their answers for which cupcake they would put on the platter. Plus, the finished products look adorable hanging out in the hallway!

Compare two fractions with the same numerator or the same denominator by reasoning about their size. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two fractions refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with the symbols >, =, or <, and justify the conclusions, e.g., by using a visual fraction model.
