Let's score some points with TRASHKETBALL!

Trashketball is a No Prep Algebra 1 game where students take shots to score points based on how quickly they answered the questions correctly!

The game is playable with the whole class together, or you can play it as small groups. There are 20 questions and answers included. This version is High School Math, Algebra 1, Exponents & Exponential Functions, Comparing Linear and Exponential Growth, Comparing Growth Rates, Contrasting constant difference (linear) and constant ratio (exponential) models using equations and tables.

It is a digital resource, no printouts required. All questions and answers use text and mathematical notation (formulas), and there are no diagrams, charts, graphics or visual aids.

How It Works:

  • The game runs in PowerPoint, and you can edit the questions and answers if you like by deleting the image and typing in the slide.
  • Make 3 teams, and set up a trash can, and up to 3 shooting positions
  • The closest shooting position is worth 1 point, middle is 2 points, and the furthest away is 3.
  • Tap the GO TO 1 to go to the first question.
  • The teams race to answer the questions correctly on a piece of paper. When done, the designated shooter stands at the shooting line with their answer, in the order they finish.
  • Yes, it is chaos, and so much fun!
  • After all shooters are ready, see the answer to the question.
  • If correct, the first team gets 3 shots, 2nd gets 2, and 3rd gets 1 shot, from any position they want.
  • Each shot that goes in is worth the points from that position.
  • Add them up and tap the digits to add them to the score
  • Repeat until all 20 questions have been asked, and then tap GAME OVER.
  • Questions vary in difficulty and the answer is provided after each question.

The game will run on:

  • iPads that run PowerPoint (free app)
  • Smartboards
  • Projectors
  • Desktops
  • Laptops
  • Any device that runs PowerPoint

This game can be played together as a class using a smartboard/projector, or it can be played by individuals and small groups on iPads or computers that run PowerPoint.

No additional licenses required for the students in your class!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

  • This game runs on PowerPoint, and will not run on Google Slides
  • A very small number of schools disable the animations and hyperlinks in their PowerPoint.
  • The solution to this is to use a different device, such as a laptop or tablet that runs PowerPoint.
  • Here are 2 test games you can use to check if your PowerPoint will run all of my games:
  • Test GRUDGEBALL
  • Test THE UNFAIR GAME

Here are several types of games that run in Google Slides:
