Description

This Comparing Functions Using Slope & Y-Intercept Digital Practice is perfect for 8th grade or Algebra students to practice finding slope & y-intercept and comparing linear functions from tables, graphs, equations, and word problems. This Google Sheets activity includes 2 differentiated practices, each with 12 scaffolded problems.

Differentiated Practices:

  • Level A: Basic practice for struggling students where they compare functions represented the same way, all graphs, all tables, all equations and all word problems.
  • Level B: More advanced practice for students where they compare functions represented a variety of ways through a combination of graphs, tables, equations and word problems.

Topics Included:

  • Finding Slope
  • Finding Y-Intercept
  • Comparing Slope & Y-Intercept
  • Tables, Graphs, Equations & Word Problems

How to Complete the Practice:

  • Assign Students Level A or Level B
  • Each row includes 3 functions: graph, table equation or word problem
  • Students type the slope & y-intercept for each function and check their answers. The number of incorrect slopes and y-intercepts are revealed to them but they need to find the error.
  • Then students compare the functions using the slopes or y-intercepts and select their answers from a drop-down menu
  • Once all parts of a problem are correct a sticker will be revealed.

This Product Includes:

  • Comparing Functions Google Sheets Self-Checking Practice
  • 2 Levels, each with 12 Problems
  • Answer Key

Ideas on When to Use Product:

  • Practice or review comparing slopes & y-intercepts from linear functions
  • Helps students compare word problems, graphs, tables & equations
  • Perfect for struggling students because the problems are scaffolded
  • Homework, small group, review, or substitutes

Compare properties of two functions each represented in a different way (algebraically, graphically, numerically in tables, or by verbal descriptions). For example, given a linear function represented by a table of values and a linear function represented by an algebraic expression, determine which function has the greater rate of change.
Construct a function to model a linear relationship between two quantities. Determine the rate of change and initial value of the function from a description of a relationship or from two (𝘹, 𝘺) values, including reading these from a table or from a graph. Interpret the rate of change and initial value of a linear function in terms of the situation it models, and in terms of its graph or a table of values.
