Description

In this lesson, students will look at two ratios graphed on the same coordinate plane and determine the unit rate of each graph.Students will be shown two methods for doing this: dividing the y-value by the x-value for any point on the line or looking for the y-value when the x-value is 1.This lesson will also serve to reinforce lesson 8 where students determine which ratio is greater by looking at the steepness of the line.

This lesson is part of my Ratios and Rates Unit (Grade 6) which includes a module review, a module practice test, and a module test with answer keys.

ALSO INCLUDED:

Answer Keys: All questions and exercises have complete and detailed answers with the steps required to solve problems.

Editable Files: Microsoft Word versions of the student version of files are provided if you would like to edit the documents. Documents might be editable in Google Docs, but formatting may not transfer with full fidelity.

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Understand the concept of a unit rate 𝘢/𝘣 associated with a ratio 𝘢:𝘣 with 𝘣 ≠ 0, and use rate language in the context of a ratio relationship. For example, “This recipe has a ratio of 3 cups of flour to 4 cups of sugar, so there is 3/4 cup of flour for each cup of sugar.” “We paid $75 for 15 hamburgers, which is a rate of $5 per hamburger.”
Solve unit rate problems including those involving unit pricing and constant speed. For example, if it took 7 hours to mow 4 lawns, then at that rate, how many lawns could be mowed in 35 hours? At what rate were lawns being mowed?
Recognize and represent proportional relationships between quantities.
