Description

This is a PowerPoint that can be used as notes for instruction on how to compare unit rates. This presentation includes vocabulary along with visual examples (tables, charts, etc.) to be used as class notes or a scaffolded assignment. These notes are structured with a do now, title page with lesson objective followed by examples and real-world questions. This presentation also has a mid way checkpoint to help students quickly self assess as they progress through the lesson. These notes align with the EnVisions Math textbook for topic 5, lesson 6 but can be used separately as well!

Once you have downloaded this product, you will be able to completely customize your presentation to fit your needs. Depending on your technology platform, the words shown in the thumbnails above do not look perfectly aligned, that is because I make everything in my google drive then export it to Power Point prior to uploading here. I can assure you, once downloaded this file, the words and slides are well structured and organized! (Although, you can customize to your liking anyway!)

Rated 5 out of 5

Met expectations
Great value
Standards-aligned
I used this presentation to teach comparing unit rates, and it was very helpful. The examples were clear and well-sequenced, making it easier for students to understand how to calculate and compare unit rates accurately. I used it during whole-class instruction and incorporated think-pair-share discussions throughout the lesson. My students felt more confident solving real-world problems after using this resource. It’s well-organized and makes a challenging concept much more accessible. Highly recommended!

Thank you so much for your detailed and thoughtful review! I’m thrilled to hear the presentation helped your students build confidence with calculating and comparing unit rates. It’s wonderful to know the sequencing of the examples made the concept more accessible and supported accurate problem-solving. I love that you incorporated think-pair-share discussions during whole-class instruction because that is such a great way to deepen student understanding and engagement. I truly appreciate you taking the time to share how the resource worked in your classroom. Thank you for the high recommendation!

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Understand the concept of a ratio and use ratio language to describe a ratio relationship between two quantities. For example, “The ratio of wings to beaks in the bird house at the zoo was 2:1, because for every 2 wings there was 1 beak.” “For every vote candidate A received, candidate C received nearly three votes.”
Understand the concept of a unit rate 𝘢/𝘣 associated with a ratio 𝘢:𝘣 with 𝘣 ≠ 0, and use rate language in the context of a ratio relationship. For example, “This recipe has a ratio of 3 cups of flour to 4 cups of sugar, so there is 3/4 cup of flour for each cup of sugar.” “We paid $75 for 15 hamburgers, which is a rate of $5 per hamburger.”
Use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world and mathematical problems, e.g., by reasoning about tables of equivalent ratios, tape diagrams, double number line diagrams, or equations.
