Description

Students will be able to compare multi-digit whole numbers using place value understanding, and correctly use comparison symbols: greater than ( > ),

less than ( < ), and equal to ( = ).

In this lesson, students will learn how to compare whole numbers by looking at the value of each digit from left to right, starting with the largest place value (millions, thousands, hundreds, etc.). Students will develop strategies to:

  • Line up numbers by place value
  • Compare digits starting with the highest place
  • Understand that the position of a digit determines its value
  • Use comparison symbols (>, <, =) correctly

The lesson includes hands-on practice, visual models (like place value charts), and word problems to help students apply their understanding in real-life contexts.
