Description
These tasks are aligned with the Australian Curriculum for Year 2 and provide an opportunity for students to explore the measurement of capacity. They involve the use of video cameras to record and reflect on experiences, thus integrating ICT.
In the first task, students collaborate with others as they determine how much water a variety of containers will hold. They measure using uniform informal units, and begin to develop skills required for accurate measurement. They compare and order containers by their capacity.
As a follow-up rich task, students are challenged to make three paper cups to meet capacity requirements. This task is linked to a short story about Goldilocks and The Three Bears. An assessment rubric is provided.
