Description
This Comparing and Ordering Numbers Math Mystery Differentiated Bundle contains all the grade versions for the Case of the Outback Outlaw available (Grades 1-4) in both a printable version and a Google Slides worksheet version. This bundle is excellent if you need to differentiate within your classroom because the clues are interchangeable between the 2nd - 4th-grade editions; use the 1st-grade mystery separately because it is structured differently. You may also find this a useful option to customize this math mystery to better suit your class.
Easy prep! Just Print & Solve! Or go paperless with the new Google Docs option provided within your download.
Distance Learning Update: I've added a Word Document within the folder that contains a Google Doc link to share this resource with your students via Google Classroom or Drive. Parts of the pages are editable so that your students can complete them without printing the pages. Please note that you will need to make a copy of the Google Slides to your drive before you can edit.
Students must use their math skills to unlock clues. Then, use their powers of deduction to narrow the list of suspects!
Use the video to introduce the activity in a fun way. After viewing, students must continue with the worksheet part of the activity to solve the case.
Within the download, you will receive:
- The math mystery PDF files for each grade level (1 - 4)
- A Google Slides option of the worksheets for digital use.
- An editable suspects list with two premade alternative lists to change the mystery solution
- The MP4 video file for the Video Hook (optional to introduce this activity in a fun way).
⭐BONUS: Ending video added to wrap up the case!
Click on the individual grade level links below to learn more about the specific math skills covered in each Comparing/Ordering Numbers Math Mystery, or to purchase individually (single packets also now include the Google Slides option too):
- Comparing and Ordering Numbers Math Mystery: Case of The Outback Outlaw (GRADE 1)
- Comparing and Ordering Numbers Math Mystery: Case of The Outback Outlaw (GRADE 2)
- Comparing and Ordering Numbers Math Mystery: Case of The Outback Outlaw (GRADE 3)
- Comparing and Ordering Numbers Math Mystery: Case of The Outback Outlaw (GRADE 4)
How long will this activity take?
The time to complete will vary anywhere between 30mins - 2 hours! It mainly depends on how familiar your students are with the math mystery format and how difficult they find the math skills covered in the particular mystery. Please check the math skills outlined in the clues above to help determine suitability for your class. I recommend pacing this activity by giving students one clue at a time. Once the whole class has completed a clue, move on to the next clue within the same lesson or the next math session. New math content presented? Make a lesson out of it by modeling the math before diving into the clue. I like to say, "We must learn something new before attempting the next clue."
