A compound word is formed when two or more words are joined to form one word. The meaning of the compound word may be very different from the meanings of the component words.
We use compound words all the time, and we don’t even think about it anymore: football, butterfly, fireworks, moonlight, everything, inside, and so many more. For a child who is just learning all sorts of new vocabulary words, compound words can be an interesting and exciting phenomenon.
