Description

Now more than ever students in even our youngest grades are using computers for instruction. Students in grades K-2 are expected to know the basic parts of the computer, as well as how to begin typing using the keyboard to share their ideas, especially as computer based standardized tests keep moving to the younger grades.

This K-2 Computer Basics resource provides students with a review of basic computer parts/peripherals and then dives into special function keys on the computer, such as the backspace button, the shift key, and the volume buttons to name a few.

Students use a paper Chromebook keyboard to find a color each of the special function keys. The teacher can use the provided word wall words to review how each of the function keys are used on the computer.

Additionally, there are two worksheets students can use to find and color the keys in either their username or password. As a teacher, you can write each students first and last names or their usernames and passwords, and they will then search for the keys. This helps students identify and practice finding essential keys they will use frequently while on the computer.

This no/low prep activity is a great resource to use at the beginning of the school year, or anytime you introduce computers/Chromebooks to your students.
