Description

This version is outdated. I have a newer version from 2020 that is the Digital Literacy Unit. I am currently working on an even newer version and have completed the first part of it--Information Processing Cycle--as of 8/23.

A fun an interactive way to teach what can be a very long and dry subject...

This file includes all materials needed for a full 2 week unit on Computer Basics, including:

4 PowerPoints

4 Kahoot! Reviews

4 Nearpods

2 Reviews

1 Student Packet

1 Computer Basics Exam

In this unit, students will learn everything from peripheral devices, functions of a computer, basic computer trouble shooting, RAM vs. ROM, Operating Systems, Application programs and more. The fourth PowerPoint includes digital citizenship, licensing, intellectual property, and how to use the social media properly with plenty of "bad" examples! Each Power Point also includes an accompanying Nearpod, which will allow students to perform fun activities that will help solidify their knowledge. Links to accompanying Kahoot! quizzes for each segment are also included and are much loved by the students!

Included is a student packet that can be printed, or better, used in Google Docs and on Google Classroom. Also are two forms of review that are not typical--one is a picture review in PowerPoint, and the other involves designing simple video games online to review vocabulary words.

Finally, a Tips and Tricks document is included that will help the teacher utilize these resources the best of your ability. All files are editable and can be updated and changed to match your curriculum more closely.

Note: If you have any issues with getting access to the Nearpods, email me at mrsfunnybusiness@gmail.com

This lesson I used in my Computer Applications classes and it gave it enough of a base knowledge for how computers work. There were engaging activities incorporated throughout the presentations. Some of the images like the parts of the computer, the students had difficulty remembering or understanding because they all have Apple laptops. A good lesson! Thank you!

Great content that doesn't go over the student's heads. It is just enough for them to understand the basics of how things work. Also, great extra resources to go along with presentations to include some engagement and fun for the kids. This covered everything I needed from my standard and I didn't have to search for any additional resources.
