Description

This is a fun way students can review content either collaboratively or individually. Students work through a series of puzzles to determine a 3 digit combination to finish the activity. This activity can be done without an actual box and lock, but it is more fun for the students and I share an inexpensive way to create the boxes.

The topics covered in this activity:

1. Computer science vocabulary (crossword puzzle)

2. Code tracing using pseudo code. (sequence, selection, iteration and lists)

3. Boolean operators and logic gates

4. Flowcharts

5. Number systems (binary & hexadecimal)

If you are using this for AP Computer Science Principles, Big Ideas 1 - 3 are covered.

My students were excited for this activity! I just wish the final puzzle did not require the use of hexadecimal conversions. This is no longer a part of the AP CSP curriculum requirements, so we did not cover this in class. We adapted and made it work, but it would be nice if the puzzles reflected the content of the course.
