Description

This concession worksheet is perfect as a minilesson, practice, or formative assessment for high school students learning to identify and analyze rhetorical devices.

This 2-page worksheet defines and gives examples of a concession in an argument with example analysis. Then, students practice identifying concessions in two short practice passages and practice analyzing the impact of the concession on the argument. The activity on the second page asks students to include a concession in a brief writing prompt.

An Answer Key with model responses is included.

Both a Google Doc digital version and PDF printable version (with lines for writing) are included for flexible classroom use.

This activity also supplements the MyPerspectives ELA curriculum or any ELA curriculum studying famous speeches.
