Description

Converting and comparing improper fractions and mixed numbers is more engaging with this unique math game! Use the game for small groups, partners, centers, or whole class.

  • Groups of 3 - 4 work well, but group size can vary....the smaller the group, the more questions each student will answer.
  • You can even keep the game cards on hand for some quick brain breaks or end of class questions.

This easy-prep fractions game has 36 question cards and offers students a choice of question types - a "truth" or a "dare!" The different cards have different point values for students to earn. Students record their answers and points on their recording sheets.

Playing this mixed number and improper fraction game:

Students can choose to answer a "truth," which is a true or false question that addresses:

  • Vocabulary
  • Basic improper fraction & mixed number concepts

OR a "dare," which would be a more challenging question requiring students to:

  • Compare mixed numbers and improper fractions (includes word problems)
  • Convert mixed numbers to improper fractions and improper fractions to mixed numbers

This easy-to-use resource includes a PDF with:

  • 36 game cards (18 Truth and 18 Dare)
  • Student recording sheet
  • Teacher answer key
  • Game instructions
  • Blank cards in case you’d like to add your own questions
  • Truth and Dare labels – these can be used as ‘pile’ labels for the Truth and Dare cards to be put beneath. Students will pick from the piles when playing.

This one is a little repetitive, with a lot of questions about converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions; some of the questions ask students to compare values. If you're looking for questions about operations with mixed numbers and fractions, this is not the resource for you.
