Description
Converting Rational Numbers (converting fractions, decimals and percents) is an essential skill that students need to learn when initially breaking down parts of the number system. Converting rational number can be a tricky for students and this bi-fold (9 flap) foldable is a teaching aid to support your student's learning and understanding of converting fractions, decimals, and percents!
This foldable works great with an interactive notebook and can be easily glued in your student's notebook!
My students love this foldable, and it is one of the learning tools they keep track of and reference throughout the year! I hope you and your students enjoy it as much as mine do! Happy Teaching!
Common Core Standard 6.RP.A.3, 5.NBT.A.3
VA SOL (2016) 6.2a
The is a foldable to help your students convert:
- fractions to decimals and percents
- decimals to fractions and percents
- percents to fractions and decimals
Printing suggestions:
- Select 'Print on both sides'
- Select 'Flip on short edge'
- I generally print from my laptop to the printer as opposed to copying it, because the lines seem to line up the best that way. Different copiers print slightly differently.
- I usually print all of my foldables on colored paper so students can easily locate them in their binder, notebook, or glued into an interactive notebook
Getting ready for student use:
- Fold the right-side of the foldable to the left on the solid line (I usually fold these for my students)
- Fold the left-side of the foldable over the right-sided fold, the result is a bi-fold (I usually fold these for my students)
- If your students keep their foldables in a three-ring binder, now is a great time to hole-punch them
- Cut the foldable on the dashed lines (I usually cut several at once for my students, but when I have them cut them, we do it together, one step at a time)
- The front of the foldable should be the 'To change a ____ to a...'
- If using an interactive notebook, now is a great time to glue it in
How to use:
- Students decide what type of number they have and open that section; fraction, decimal or percent.
- Next students will determine whether they want to convert the fraction, decimal, or percent and open that section
- Once the selection is opened, students are provided with step-by-step directions and a numerical example showing each of the steps
