Cooking is one of my favorite activities to motivate and engage my students. It's not only delicious, but FULL OF LANGUAGE! I use cooking in so many ways to target IEP goals in my mixed groups, including:

-Expressive and Receptive Labeling

-Vocabulary

-Describing

-Comparing and Contrasting

-Functions

-Categories

-Associations

-Cause and Effect

-Thematic Units

-Following Directions

-Sequencing

-Answering WH- Questions

-Taking Turns

-Sensory

-Trying new foods for those picky eaters

-Articulation

-Measurement

-Quantitative and Qualitative Concepts

-Superlative and Comparative Adjectives

-Pronouns

-Prepositions

These recipes are simple, fast (under 30 minutes), and require just a bit of preparation to shop for ingredients and gather the tools required.

At my school, my team shares the cost each week for groceries and we went to Goodwill to purchase all we needed for the tools. Trust me, it’s worth it! The kids love it and look forward to it all week long.
