Description

Are you looking for an engaging, authentic way to develop your students' mathematical fluency in comparing and solving fraction equations?

We're bringing math to the kitchen with a new collection of three delicious recipes!

In each recipe, the amount of ingredients has been replaced by an equation adding/subtracting or comparing fractions. Young mathematicians must use their knowledge of fractions to solve the exercises, identifying how much of each ingredient to use in the recipe. Recipes require a minimal amount of kitchen equipment and know-how, making them accessible for a variety of students and locations. For a sample of what to expect from this purchase, check out my *free* Cooking With Math download. If it doesn't taste the way you expected, check your math!

Compare two fractions with different numerators and different denominators, e.g., by creating common denominators or numerators, or by comparing to a benchmark fraction such as 1/2. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two fractions refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with symbols >, =, or <, and justify the conclusions, e.g., by using a visual fraction model.
Understand a fraction 𝘢/𝘣 with 𝘢 > 1 as a sum of fractions 1/𝘣.
