Description

Students are going to love this self checking digital activity for identifying the coordinates of an image or pre-image point after a rigid motion transformation. This Halloween math activity includes a printable worksheet version and a digital version where students will receive instant feedback.

In this digital activity, students will choose questions in any order from a drop down menu. Each correctly answered question earns them Halloween treats. If a question is answered wrong, their answer turns red to let them know they should try again. The sheet also will track how many attempts they take on each question.

⭐Google Sheet:  A link in the pdf download will allow you to make your own copy of the activity to add to your google drive.

⭐ Printable Worksheet: This version has been provided to give you an additional option to fit the needs of your students.

⭐Concepts Covered:

  • Find the coordinate of an image point after a rigid motion
  • Find the coordinate of a preimage point that resulted in the given image after a rigid motion
  • Find the coordinate of an image point after a sequence of transformations
  • Reflections (y-axis, x-axis, y=x, y=-x)
  • Rotation (90, 180, 270)
  • Translations

You will get a PDF download with:

  • Link to make a copy of the activity
  • About the activity
  • Teacher directions
  • Student work page
  • Worked out solutions
  • Worksheet version

I absolutely loved this activity for my 8th graders who were reviewing for an iReady Mastery Check the following day. We did the Transformations unit in September and the mastery check was just about a month later. I paired this activity with a Transformations BINGO game right after and the kids did so well in the game. Highly recommend this resource.

Represent transformations in the plane using, e.g., transparencies and geometry software; describe transformations as functions that take points in the plane as inputs and give other points as outputs. Compare transformations that preserve distance and angle to those that do not (e.g., translation versus horizontal stretch).
Given a geometric figure and a rotation, reflection, or translation, draw the transformed figure using, e.g., graph paper, tracing paper, or geometry software. Specify a sequence of transformations that will carry a given figure onto another.
