Description

The National Science Foundation posted a set of tools for students to explore Afrofuturism. This project prompts students to define afrofuturism, learn how to use the software to create their own afrofuturistic designs, and create a braid using the CSDT (Culturally Situated Design Tools) provided by the NSF located here: https://csdt.org/culture/scifi/index.html

The assignment is in a Google Slides presentation that can be assigned in Google Classroom. Students mainly practice coordinate graphing in a fun way that also introduces coding! This tool can be used for many projects exploring Afrofuturism, so the tutorials are worth exploring for this and more mini projects that should be found here on TpT soon.

This is a resource for classes interested in adding cultural elements to the math classroom. Ethnomathematics is the study of how math is learned more naturally through culture, equipping educators to provide a more enjoyable learning experience by providing culturally relevant pedagogy for diverse students.

My students use these resources to help with computer science. It was a little more engaging for them, but it was a wow moment once they figured it out.
