Description

This is a set of activities and games to use at your teacher table with small groups during your Guided Math time. The great thing about Guided Math is that you get to teach skills to small groups based on where their math skills are. You don’t need to do all of the activities or do them in order—just pick and choose what your groups need to work on.

These are six specific outcomes that are covered in this unit:

•Counting Forwards by 1s to 100/120

•Counting Backwards by 1s from 100/120

•Skip Counting by 2s to 30

•Skip Counting by 5s to 100

•Skip Counting by 10s to 100

•Counting Objects to 30 (by 1s, 2s, 5s, 10s)

For each outcome, there are four lesson activities and one game for a total of 30 lessons. Each lesson has an optional recording sheet that comes in two formats--a full-page to put in a duotang or binder and a half-page that can be glued into a notebook. Each of the activities/games comes in full colour or black & white to save you on ink.

When students meet at the teacher table for Guided Math, they are grouped based on a shared skill they need to work on. When working on counting skills, you will have some students who are still working on counting to 30, while other students have mastered counting to 100. Each of the activities in this unit can be differentiated to meet the needs of all your students.

This unit includes all the pieces you will need (including 100/120 charts and number cards from 0-100/120). There are just some regular math manipulatives you might need, such as dice, game markers, unifix/counting cubes, and math counters of your choice (mini erasers, bears, etc.).

This unit aligns well with Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba first grade math curriculums, but can be used with any curriculum that has a focus on counting skills to 100/120.

*Updated* This unit comes with two files now--the original PDF version and an editable PowerPoint version. If you teach Math in another language (French, German, or Spanish perhaps?) you can edit the text boxes on the student pages to meet your needs. The teacher information pages are not editable, but all the student pages are! You do need to have PowerPoint in order to edit the file.
