This is a fun creative project that I created while we were discussing the Loch Ness Monster in science class. We watched a documentary and students took notes on if there was any real "science" behind the Loch Ness Monster theory and investigation tactics used in Monsterquest (this can be found on YouTube).
To end the mini-unit, students created their own "cryptid," which is an animal whose existence is disputed. They create an enlarged trading card for their cryptid and include a drawing, backstory, and stats based on their cryptids skills. Then, students faced off in epic battles against the other cryptids in their class.
Students RAVED about this for days after we did it. While it is loosely connected to science, it could be used as a fun, creative activity for any class.
