This is an animated presentation to show students how to recognize a pattern and create/solve an equation representing it. I originally made it to go along with some worksheet packet about block patterns we were using at my school. Generally I've found that most students understand the basic concept without having it explicitly taught to them. Creating the equation is something that some of them aren't 100% clear on at first, but with a little explanation (usually getting another student to explain how _they_ got the equation is best) everyone seems to be on board.
The first slide is a very slow looping animation of the first pattern of the packet. The idea for that was that I wanted something playing on the screen while everyone was entering the classroom and sitting down.
The last 2 block patterns involve equations where the variable is squared. Depending on time and the skill level of your students, you may not want to use those. The very last page gives an expression and asks the students to create a pattern representing it.
