This Current World Project asks students to research a major international issue (of their choosing) and present their findings to the class in a short presentation and two-page paper. I have found over my ten year career that this project is a perfect way to ask all types of students to get familiar with modern conflicts and find out the deeper meanings of what they see on the news, without expecting too much detail from them. Besides the two to three days of library research time I suggest, class sizes of 25-30 students usually take three to six days to finish presentations. This is a PERFECT way to fill the gap between the text book and the modern world!
