Description

This assignment can be used during any science unit in an effort to link current events information to the science classroom. Physical, Earth, and Life Sciences can be used and students can find the relevance in what they are learning in the classroom and apply it to their real-world. This template also works great as a differentiation tool as each student can have a different article based on their reading and comprehension level and can be adapted for multiple subject areas. If you have a science magazine subscription such as Current Science or Science Weekly this template fits perfectly and makes for a great sub plan as well! I have also used this template with sections in the textbook as a guided reading exercise.

This can also be used as an assessment task using the MYP Criterion D Science Rubric.

I used this during the first week of school with high school students. I provided groups with current news stories connected to science. This resource was a great addition to help them summarize what they learned
