Description
This PhET Lab guide can be completed digitally as an interactive handout with drag and drop elements or printed. Students are instructed how to build a baseline circuit to compare it to a tester circuit. Then, use the PhET simulation and lab guide to set up their circuits to answer the 4 testable questions provided: "How does [voltage, length of wire, type of material & wire diameter] affect the strength of electric current?" (NGSS PS2-3) Ask questions about data to determine the factors that affect the strength of electric and magnetic forces.
By the end of the lesson, students answer the question, "What factors affect the strength of electric currents?" and are prompted to give a reason why/how increasing one variable affects the strength of electric current.
Concepts: independent, dependent and constant variables, voltage, voltmeter, amperes, ammeter, conductivity, insulators, how to use the voltmeter and ammeter, resistivity, direct/indirect relationships, baseline

✔ Student Versions - Non editable & ready to assign digitally with textboxes set up!
✔ Teacher Versions - Editable with Answer Key
✔ Minimal Prep - Digitally Ready to assign to an LMS or print
✔ Digital Ready!
- Pages are preformatted with transparent textboxes with blue font set in place where students type.
- The textboxes are transparent so pages are still printable.
✔ Interactive- The pages are set up so they can either be printed or if completed digitally (using Slides/PowerPoint), students can move the interactives.
✔ Guiding images- Students find this very helpful when tinkering with the simulation

(NGSS PS2-3) Ask questions about data to determine the factors that affect the strength of electric and magnetic forces (Stability and Change)
SEP's:
Asking Questions and Defining Problems, Developing and Using Models, Planning and Carrying Out Investigations, Analyzing and Interpreting Data, Constructing Explanations
Learning goal:
Students will ask questions, use models and analyze data to conduct an investigation to determine factors affect the strength of electric currents.
Prior knowledge of circuit types and electric current is recommended
This lab follows the Currents & Circuits 1 PhET Lab, which is an introductory lesson to learning currents and circuits with notes, video and lab simulation.
Concepts for Currents & Circuits 1: electric currents, voltage, circuit, load, power source, wire, open/closed circuit, series circuit, parallel circuit.
