Description
Are you looking to engage students in a mixed review of critical reading skills to review and show mastery as reader leaders? This “Mixed Reading Skill Review BUNDLE” is for you! It focuses on a review of these seven skills with one Pixar Short film:
Flashback,
Theme,
Sequence,
Predictions,
Character Development,
Plot,
Conflict Resolution
Included are three different options for you to immediately implement it smoothly into your digital platform, such as Google Classroom:
- You can assign one skill at a time for a total of seven Google Classroom assignments
- You can assign all seven skills at one time for an independent project over several days in which students review all seven skills in one Google Classroom assignment.
- You can organize your class into seven “Expert Groups” and follow the templates which prompt them to plan a presentation on what their assigned reading skill is, how it impacts the reading process and apply their knowledge to Lou.
All skills are being applied to the same Pixar short film, Lou, which allows students to have that background knowledge of the film and delve deeply into the application of the reading skills. It’s an engaging way to think deeply about these essential skills! They will have so much fun, they may not even know they are entering into a rigorous reading task.
There is innate differentiation in this project because lower level students create more basic analysis while high level students create more detailed analysis. Students can work on the same project, demonstrating the same standard mastery yet their implementation can meet their unique needs as learners. That’s the power of a well designed digital project!
This resource comes with everything you will need to implement it smoothly into your digital platform, such as Google Classroom, right away.
Your purchase includes:
- Google Hyperdoc which you can save and will serve as you “one stop shop” for all the other links and directions
- Student Interactive Slides for each of the three options described
- Keys for the application of the reading skill to Lou
- Google Classroom Post Directions
- Each reading skill is linked with quality BrainPop and YouTube videos for students to review the reading skill before applying it to Lou.
I am a fifth grade teacher and I have my students complete this project after I have already introduced them in class. It serves as a great way for students to practice the skills, while having fun!. It really could be used in many grade levels.
The Hyperdoc will prompt you to make a copy of each link. I encourage you to group those into a folder for your organization.
You and your students will need a Google Account to utilize these resources; however, instructions are included for making a free Google Account if you do not already have one.
