"Great virtual alternative to the traditional banana lab. The ability to still take students through the process without having to do all of the prep work and/or worry about allergies was extremely useful."

Description

Looking for a virtual lab alternative for your wet lab on DNA extraction? Or a makeup lab for absent students? Using this alternative Virtual DNA Extraction Lab, you can have students perform DNA extraction virtually or in the classroom for your DNA/Genetics unit. Or use it as a makeup lab for absent students. The animation of the simulated lab enables students to walk through the steps of DNA extraction from cheek cells before comparing that lab bench process with a “kitchen” lab extracting DNA from strawberries by watching a video of the process.

Note: Prior knowledge and understanding of chromosome structure (chromatids, centromere, nitrogen bases) and enzymes is helpful to successfully answer the questions.
