Super helpful, but very detailed... Super great for explaining DNA replication, transcription and translation. The practice problems or questions were helpful for my students to apply what they learned. I did think the notes were very in-depth for 9th grade Biology, but I used what was needed and skipped over the rest.

I did not do the "Build a DNA Molecule Virtual Lab." Re mRNA, tRNA, & rRNA Virtual Exploration Lab: I wasn't super impressed with this activity as it basically just asks students to copy information directly from the webpage. It's a good graphic organizer if you need something in a pinch but wasn't super engaging. If I used it again I would have my students try to fill it out (as review after learning about RNA), and then give them the link to check their work with the online page. Re Transcription and Translation Virtual Lab: I liked this. Students were able to work themselves through nicely and it is a good guide to supplement the Learn Genetics interactive and ensure that students are pausing to relate the interactive to the process of protein synthesis, not just clicking through. However, there is one SIGNIFICANT error that I didn't catch until after students were working on it...the codon chart on the last page has T instead of U?! I also double checked that it wasn't just an "anti-codon chart" (if those exist), and that is not the case. It aligns with the codons of mrna that should code for the proper amino acids but just has Ts in place of all the Us. I am going to ask my kids tomorrow if they have any questions about this to see if they caught the mistake....turn it into a teachable moment.
