Description

This worksheet was designed as a review to help students before a test, but it could be given as homework or extra practice. It also works great as a sub plan! As your students solve the riddle, they work through DNA structure and function concepts as well as review replication and the scientists involved in DNA's discovery.

Designed for middle and high school students, this 2-page worksheet includes 20 thought-provoking questions on DNA structure, function, and replication. Each question brings students a little closer to solving the riddle and to getting an “A” on their test!

I recommend printing this assignment out as a worksheet or assigning it with students that can use a stylus.

Time to Complete: 20 - 30 minutes

NGSSHS-LS3-1
Ask questions to clarify relationships about the role of DNA and chromosomes in coding the instructions for characteristic traits passed from parents to offspring. Assessment does not include the phases of meiosis or the biochemical mechanism of specific steps in the process.
NGSSHS-LS1-1
Construct an explanation based on evidence for how the structure of DNA determines the structure of proteins, which carry out the essential functions of life through systems of specialized cells. Assessment does not include identification of specific cell or tissue types, whole body systems, specific protein structures and functions, or the biochemistry of protein synthesis.
