Description

Five months of math word problems to use as bell-ringers or for review!

Covering the months of January through May, there is one unique problem for every day, including February 29th. These materials can be used every year as the information is timeless.

Each problem contains a factual historical connection to the date. It is fun and interesting to learn these facts while practicing math skills at the same time.

Some of the skills that are included:

• basic computation

• equations in one and two variables

• measures of central tendency

• fractions, decimals, and percents

• ratios and proportion, unit rates

• graphing

• geometry

• more!

Some problems are short and relatively simple. Others involve multiple steps. All involve translating a word problem into math terms and solving. Many of the problems contain extraneous information and numbers that are not needed in solving the problem. Daily practice helps students improve their ability to identify the essential information and correctly set up the problem.

Each problem is presented three ways. The problems are written sequentially for the teacher's reference. They are also given two to a page which can be copied, cut, and distributed as half-sheets. Lastly, each problem is written in a larger font on separate pages for projecting onto the board. You can choose the format that suits your class.

NOTE: This is a zipped file containing 7 PDFs.

Each of the five months included in this resource is available separately. Preview the individual months to see more examples of what is included in this bundle.

This bundle represents a 20% savings compared to the cost of buying each of the five months separately.

The months of the first semester, August through December, are also available individually and in a money-saving bundle. View all of the Daily Math Word Problems for grades 7-10 here.

Intermediate grade teachers (grades 4-6):

Word Problem of the Day - Intermediate is a version of this resource written for younger students, also available as monthly products and in discounted, semester-long bundles.

I teach special education classes and because of that I get multiple levels of students in each class. These were used for students work on as I worked in small groups to teach the different math lessons. My students loved these! If I forgot, they always reminded me to go over the answers with them as they all wanted to be right.,great to use to review previously taught skills.
