Get 7 daily math word problems - one for each day of the week of, September 14-20. Each problem has a historical connection to the date. Students really enjoy the interesting facts.
This set of problems is a sample of a month-long problem set, Daily Math Word Problems for September. See the preview of the full set for more details.
These problems can be used as bell ringers or can be assigned as practice constructed response (short or extended) problems. Students enjoy learning some fun facts while they tease out the important parts of the word problems and decide how to solve them. Students will use basic skills as well as percent, proportions, unit conversions, divisibility, and standard and scientific notation. The topics of the problems include penicillin, leap year, the U.S. National Debt, ozone, "Iceman," Magellan, and the Battle of Antietam.
A printable student answer sheet is included. An answer key with the work shown for each problem is also provided.
All of the Daily Math Word Problems for grades 7-10 are available in monthly sets and in money-saving semester-long bundles.
Intermediate grade teachers (grades 4-6):
Word Problem of the Day - Intermediate offers similar problems written for younger students, also available as monthly products and in discounted, semester-long bundles.

Thank you. Please take a look at the monthly and semester-long resources. Students really enjoy them, they get to practice pulling out the necessary parts of a word problem and solving. In addition to the wide variety of topics, the math skills that are required to solve the problems cover a wide range as well.
